Asian beauties : Misses Malaysia and Thailand

Carlen Aguilar, Miss Philippines was the first to tape her message followed by Miss India Shamita Singha, who was already made up and properly dressed, ready to be photographed anytime. Miss Denmark Catharine Svensson dropped a bomb when she came out in her bikini - nice body.Miss Latvia Jelena Keirane was very statuesque and came in with Miss Thailand Victoria Wachholz and Miss Malaysia Joey Eng Li Tan.While Miss Latvia was quite reserved, Misses Thailand and Malaysia had ready, bright smiles. Miss Singapore looks better when she smiles. Miss Puerto Rico, another tall candidate, had a fashionable way of wrapping a big scarf over one side of her bikini top. As darkness set in, the director apologized to the girls and said that their shoots will have to be reset for a better effect. So, Boyet, Joseph and I packed up and rushed to our working tables for this coverage.

MISS ESTONIA SHOWS WHY SHE WOWED ‘EM AT MISS UNIVERSE

The Miss Earth excitement begins with the arrival of Evelyn Mikomagi, Miss Earth Estonia. She planed in at 6;15 p.m. and was at the Carousel Productions’ office by 7:30 p.m. Flashback to Miss Universe 2000 and I recall her wide, bright smile and her sprightly walk. That was exactly how she walked in. She initially impressed me with her ready, natural smile that smelled of sincerity.

She easily warmed out to everyone, like she had known them for a long time. No wonder, she was introduced in the Miss Universe semifinals as the favorite of the production staff – she was just lovable. She gets her first taste of Filipino food and took her serving without questioning what food it was. She helped herself to servings of chicken apritada and chop suey. She was offered green mangoes with diced onions, tomatoes and bagoong. She readily took the bagoong and was about to put a third of a teaspoon when we warned her it was salty and had to be taken with the mango. Well, she tried and tasted it but I think the mango was just too sour, the bagoong too salty or she didn’t like the smell.

That was in contrast to the sampaguita lei, the scent of which she liked a lot. After she finished her main course, I made my pitch about the ripe Philippine mango as the best mango in the world. She said she loved mangoes and when she finally tasted the ripe mango, she just gushed over it – “This tastes great. I could eat this all day.” This prompted CarleneAguilar, Miss Philippines to offer another serving. We rise to go to the kitchen, carrying our plates and she carries her own plate too. Nice girl, no airs.

I was impressed with her good command of the English language and I learned from Evelyn Mikomagi that she was sent as a Rotary exchange student to Australia . She is presently taking up Film Arts in Stockholm, Sweden and dreams of being a movie director and producer. How about being an actress? Yes, she’s also open to that option.
